NETHERLANDS hauliers are up in arms over the fact that they are no longer entitled to year reduction tickets for regular journeys on Austrian toll roads.
COG, the Netherlands Road Haulage Consultative Committee, and EVO, the own account operators' association, have complained to their Ministry of Transport, pointing out that only Austrian operators are now entitled to discounts, and saying that they already suffer a competitive disadvantage because of Austria introducing a transit tax.
They want their government to take action on this matter and have the ruling overturned.
Road Haulage Association executive officer Bob Duffy told CM that although British operators are affected by the Austrian tolls, they do not make such regular use of the roads as the Dutch and West Germans do, and consequently have not been able to make use of year redUctions.
