NTEGOTIATING committees should 1 Iscrutinize applications for renewals of 13 licences which contain the condition, "agricultural produce." This suggestion, which was made by the Yorkshire Licensing Authority, followed a discussion between representatives of the Sheffield and Hull areas of the Road Haulage Association and officials of the Yorkshire Traffic Area.
As reported in "The Commercial Motor" on May 11, the Authority has asked applicants to use the definition, "agricultural produce of the land within x miles of base to within x miles of base," unless the goods carried are not adequately covered by this definition.
R.H.A. representatives pointed out that this definition would not cover a number of commodities now legally carried under the present bare description, "agricultural produce," such as market produce and seed potatoes, and that this condition would not be fully appreciated by some small operators.
Mr. P. J. Cheshire, Sheffield Area secretary, is asking members concerned to consult him on the matter.
