usage could force smaller operators out of business, according to a new report.
The survey, by the Gordon Simmons Research Group, questioned 300 haulage managers and operators and shows that two thirds are concerned about increases in road taxes and motorway use charges.
Many operators felt that taxes on heavy goods vehicles using motorways could lead to smaller haulage businesses folding.
A further 46% of those interviewed were worried about the knock-on effects further interest rate increases would have on the cost of vehicles and trailers.
Research Group Associate Director, Janet Armstrong, said many of operators are worried about rising costs."Contractors with high-mileage and bigger vehicles are most likely to be affected by a rise in road and fuel taxes as increased operational costs will eventually filter through to the paying customer," she says.
