• East Anglian hauliers have reacted angrily to a new weight restriction on lorries travelling through Thetford in Norfolk.
The ban on southbound A134 traffic over 7.5 tonnes is being introduced by Norfolk County Council later this year following complaints about noise and pollution.
Barry IIarvey, commercial manager of Stennett's Transport based in Ingham, south of Thetford, says the proposed diversion along the All would add around 15 minutes to journey times.
"Lorries are going to cut across country along other routes which is simply going to cause problems for other people." Freight traffic increased on the A134 when Suffolk County Council banned lorries on the A1088 north of lxworth last year.
A spokesman for Norfolk County Council says lorries would still be allowed to travel north along the A134 through Thetford because the alternative involved making a dangerous right turn on to the All.
