• Sainsbury's is running in-service emission tests on 47 vehicles in its Charlton, east London depot which have been switched to run on Greenergy low-sulphur diesel.
Exhaust samples, taken at idle and 1,200rpm in neutral, are analysed for particulates, nitrous oxide (N0x), carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon content. Similar tests are being taken for comparison from 10 vehicles from Sainsbury's, Basingstoke which are running on normal diesel.
The primary results will show the difference between the Greenergy and normal diesel fleets for in-service vehicles. And one of Sainsbury's Greenergy vehicles will be put through the full 13-mode emission cycle to see if there is correlation between the two tests.
The in-service tests are being carried out by TES, formally a part of British Coal.
