• Metrocab's Metrocare is in service with the North Yorkshire, Mid Glamorgan, and Royal Berkshire ambulance services. Derived from a purpose-built taxi, it is wheelchair-accessible, and is used for non-emergency patient transport. It can be fitted with Elap Engineering's electronically-operated Elap seat.
• Fiat is launching a major onslaught on the ambulance market with Ducato. Among examples at Ambex were an accident and emergency version converted by Clare, Republic of Ireland-based Auto Conversions, and a patient transport service conversion by Devon of Exeter, French ambulance specialist Bernard Collet displayed one based on a Fiat Ducato 14 long-wheelbase high-roof 2.5-litre turbo-diesel.
• The Papworth Spacebus body in patient transport services guise made its first appearance on a Fiat Ducato Maxi platform cab. Employing a chrome-titanium stainless steel frame clad with unstressed GRP panels, it has an interior width of 2,030mm. Internal length is 3,886mm, while internal height is 1,860mm. Built by Coachwork Walker and Locomotors, Spacebus is now constructed by Advanced Transport Technology trading as Papworth VBB.
• Universal Vehicle Group also had a Ford E-350 chassis, a left-hand-drive example fitted with Customline Lazer bodywork.lt also displayed an upgraded version of its low-drag Premia body on a Ford Transit, with anti-burst locks and multiplex wiring.
