ABOUT 230 drivers employed by logistics contractor Canute Haulage have won a 10% pay rise over two years after threatening industrial action.
The drivers, who work on a contract with discount retailer Wilkinson, are based at Worksop, Notts, and Magor, Gwent. The United Road Transport Union (URTU) says the increase will boost wages for a 48-hour week from £390 to E430 by February 2007.
"It is a two-year staged pay deal backdated to the anniversary date in February," says URTU regional officer Dave Swan. The planned industrial action will now not take place and the company has been informed," Meetings are due to take place in the next few weeks to deal with operational issues including waiting times at Wilkinson stores. "We now have a commitment from Wilkinson and Canute to address these problems at the highest level," he adds.
