While no one seriously expects van production in Birmingham to resume at anything resembling previous levels, LDV will be remembered as the plucky little British company that consistently failed to earn enough to finance its future in an increasingly expensive world. That it continued to sell less than contemporary products for so long, appealing particular to the cost-conscious conservative public sector, is a tribute to the company's core values and the tenacity of its sales organisation.
It also played a significant, if unsung, role in providing steel pressings for numerous other vehicle manufacturers, and its SVO department, building specialised vans on site, was the envy of many larger companies.
