El The president of visa and relocation company First Point International (FPI) has been arrested in Florida and charged with visa fraud, illegal entry to the United States and false statements.
David Webster was apprehended at Orlando International Airport last Wednesday after special agents from the US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) acted on a warrant issued by the US Magistrate for the Middle District of Florida.
It is alleged that Webster failed to disclose previous criminal convictions on a non-immigration visa application: specifically an alleged conviction in a British court in February 1984 for "conspiracy to defraud" when he was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment. The news casts further doubt on FPI's US truck drivers' programme which experienced setbacks in December when the company received a stern warning from the INS (CM 2-8 Dec 1999).
