DOURNEMOUTH'S traffic arrange
ments in the Square were severely criticized, last week, at a Ministry of Transport inquiry into the corporation's proposal to prohibit the parking of coaches in the Square, Jervis Place and Bourne Avenue, The municipality contended that the presence of the vehicles contributed to congestion.
• Strong opposition was afforded by the local coach operators, through the coach owners' section of Bournemouth Chamber of Trade, and by Bournemouth West Ratepayers' Association. Mr. N. R. Fox Andrews appeared for the coach proprietors.
The corporation argued that, although the coach services wen appreciated by holidaymakers, local traffic must receive first consideration.
