• The Transport & General Workers Union (T&G) this week announced that two of the most important negotiating jobs in road haulage have been taken by Ron Webb and Steve Turner.
Webb has been acting as national secretary for road transport (Commercial) since January, when Danny Bryan retired from the post, so this week's announcement formalises the change.
The job will see Webb acting as the main negotiator for pay and conditions for drivers through, out the country, with a salary of £43,898.
Turner, previously a regional organiser, will be national secretary for docks and waterways, but also has a number of key responsibilities within road haulage.
Webb and Turner will divide their haulage roles as follows: • Ron Webb: hire and reward; tankers and oil contractors; car collection; general haulage; Exel; Wincanton; TINT; and Parceline.
• Steve Turner: Christian Salvesen; Cleanaway; Biffa Waste; Turners (Soham); TDG; DFDS; Securitas; NFT; Manpower (and all other agency matters); parcels sector (lead officer); UPS; Reality; Lynx; and BRS.
