wants to ban trucks
A SECOND AUSTRIAN region is attempting to ban trucks from using non-strategic A-roads except for local deliveries. Upper Austria wants to ban trucks for environmental reasons in response to a campaign by residents. This follows an attempt at a similar restriction by the Tyrol region. This plan has been suspended by the European Court
of Justice pending a final ruling, probably at the end of the year.
It is not yet clear whether the UpperAustria ban could be stalled in the same way.
The calls for lorry bans in Austria follow the introduction of motorway tolling for trucks, which has lead to a rise in goods traffic on A-roads as operators seek to avoid the charges.
