The Dover Straits ports (Dover, Folkestone and Ramsgate) have seen marked growth in recent years; in the first quarter, they handled more than 60% of all vehicles leaving the UK. Traffic through English Channel ports has declined since 1994, but the number of vehicles using both North Sea and English Channel ports has steadily risen since 2002.
