AS CM WENT to press, reports last year following allegations
were coming through that the vice-president of BAG, the German equivalent of VOSA, had been suspended following allegations that he was being paid by Willi Betz. The suspension comes after sweeping raids were carried out on Willi Betz's headquarters AS CM WENT to press, reports last year following allegations
of bribery against its executives (CM 3 April 2003). Journalist Matthias Rathmann says paperwork revealing the link between Rolf Kreienhop and Willi Betz was unearthed during the raids. The Public Prosecutors office in Stuttgart describes Kreienhop as an "illegal advisory assistant" to
the German haulier. If the allegations of corruption are proved he faces up to five years in prison.
A spokesman for the German trade association BGL says: "The vice-president of BAG had a consultancy contract with Willi Betz and BAG didn't know about it... it was unofficial. He is now suspended."
