Earlier this year. Neil MacDonald, 61. from Tarbet, Argyll, had his HGV licence revoked and was disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for three years (CM 1 April). in a decision issued by Richard McFarlane, Deputy Traffic Commissioner (OTC) for Scotland.
MacDonald. an HGV driver for 35 years, who worked for Torbert-based haulier B Mundell, had been loading gran at the Baird 's Malt facility at
Pentcartlania, East Lothian, on 5 November 2008. On the journey back he was stopped near Dalkeith by a VOSA traffic examiner who discovered a magnetic coat hook attached to the sender unit of the gearbox of his truck, effectively "freezing" the signal to the tachograph recording equipment.
The DTC said revoking the licence would provide a "strong deterrent" to drivers.
