Elome people have funny hobbies, don't they? Take Anthony Heywood, a sculptor and lecturer at Kent Institute of Art and Design in Canterbury.
Heywood's idea of a good time is taking thousands of sheets of A4 paper, tearing them into one-inch squares and soaking them overnight to make full-size papier mache replicas of small Japanese cars. His latest model is a replica of a Honda Quintet which he exhibited at a London gallery with the aid of a partnership between Arjo Wiggins, who supplied his paper, and Beck & Pollitzer. The TDG company transported the delicate paper car as a small part of its duty of distributing the paper manufacturer's products throughout the UK. To avoid damage, six operatives lifted the "car" on and off its trailer. Yes, but is it art?
