OCADO HAS TAKEN on a two-acre site in Wimbledon, south west London, which will form another distribution spoke for its online supermarket supply chain and create 190 jobs.
The site will be serviced by HGV deliveries from its central distribution depot in Hatield and will take the strain off capacity from its other spoke sites in Surrey and Kent.
The announcement comes as Ocado opens a new DC in Bristol, which will service around one million homes in the south west.
The Wimbledon spoke will operate 60 vans, adding to its current total leet of 770 delivery vehicles and it will facilitate around 14,000 orders per week.
An Ocado spokesman says the 190 new jobs will be van delivery drivers and site management roles.
He adds: “That said, we continue to grow and we will look to recruit more delivery drivers and HGV drivers in the months ahead.”
