TRANSPORT MANAGERS who lose their repute should be given the right to appeal as individuals, according to the Road Haulage Association (RHA) and the Freight Transport Association (FTA).
The calls follow a consultation over the irst ever set of guidance notes published by Senior Trafic Commissioner (STC) Philip Brown.
The directions state: “A transport manager may not appeal against a TC’s decision unless it is in connection with an appeal made by the licence holder.” James Firth, FTA head of road freight policy, says: “If a transport manager loses his repute, he can only appeal the decision through his company. However, there may be a problem if they have fallen out with each other. We believe a transport manager should be given the chance to appeal as an individual.” Nick Deal, RHA logistics development manager, says: “We believe the lack of a right of appeal goes against basic human rights.”
