THE CONGRESS turned it attention to the rational us( of energy in freight an passenger vehicles. It was satisfied that collaboratior between vehicle manufac turers and operators hac achieved much in this field.

IRU was concerned how ever that in an attempt to cui use of fuel Governments would arbitarily cut back or the use of road vehicles.. Thi said the Congress would bE disastrous to the European economy.

It appealed to Governments to recognise the consequence of a cut back, The savings in eliminating all road transport would show no more than a E percent saving in world energy consumption.
