• Haulage operators have been warned by police that they are putting drivers' lives at risk by sending them out in defective vehicles.
The warning comes after eight trucks were found to be defective during spot checks carried out by police and Vehicle Inspectorate officials as part of Operation Bulstrode in Sandwell, West Midlands.
All eight vehicles were found -to be in such a dangerous condition that they were issued with immediate prohibitions.
Acting Sgt Paul Hopley, based at Langley police station, says: "The defective vehicles posed a significant threat to the safety of the drivers and other road users. The haulage firms are putting lives at risk by sending them out in these dangerous vehicles."
