• BoaRoy MD Gerry Brown has called for legislation to govern the fitting of bodywork to chassis. Addressing transport managers and fleet engineers at a recent Transport Association meeting, Brown contended that the current lack of regulation presents "huge product liabilities".
Contrasting the situation with the detailed legislation governing chassis building, he is calling for action on three fronts: • Type Approval for vehicle bodies, based on physical testing; • Defined strength ratings for bulkheads, walls, doors an,d Closures; • Compulsory ancher points in key structural areas.
Brown went on to remind his audience that side curtains are designed to keep the weather out—not to keep the load in—and specific load restraint measures should provide the primary level of security.
