Vehicle examiner Alastair Price reported that two spot checks and two fleet checks had been carried out. Over the past five years the vehicles had been issued with four prohibitions, two of which showed a significant maintenance failure, giving a prohibition rate of 67%. Two vehicles were examined during the fleet check last December, resulting in one delayed prohibition. The other vehicle was free from defects.
The forward planning system was not available during the inspection and Price felt that the inspection intervals were too long. There was no nil defect reporting system.
