• The licence held by David Aldred, trading as DAT International of Deal, has been revoked by the South Eastern and Metropolitan LA Brigadier Michael Turner.
Aldred held an international licence for two vehicles and two trailers based at the premises of CFR Revell in Northern Road, Deal. He was called to an Eastbourne disciplinary inquiry following a maintenance investigation in February Vehicle examiner Malcolm Lockley said no inspection records or driver defect reports were available for the two licensed vehicles. Aldred had told him he had a current maintenance contract with Dick DunkIey of Mill Hill, Deal, but had not operated any vehicles since June 1993.
Dunkley said he had not seen Aldred's vehicles for some time and there was no current maintenance contract.
The proceedings were adjourned to enable Aldred to produce further information. He failed to appear, but said he would be forwarding the relevant paperwork.
Revoking the licence, Turner said that no further information or evidence had been produced. He concluded that Aldred no longer had authority to use his nominated operating centre and did not have a current maintenance contract. • Following a series of prohibition notices the licence held by Ebbw Vale-based H Morgan & Sons (Haulage) has only been renewed for two years.
The company had been seeking renewal of its national licence for 15 vehicles and 30 trailers before South Wales Deputy LA Alan Bourlet at a Cardiff public inquiry.
For the company, it was said that following the issue of the notices for defective tyres, sweeping changes were made in the maintenance system. These included the introduction of inspections every three weeks.
Two drivers who had previously been warned for failing to report defects were dismissed when they failed comply with instructions.
The last time one of the company's vehicles had failed its annual test was three years and five months ago, and that had been the result of a "simple oversight".
