3 ouldn't resist letting you see this splendid restoration of a 1921 Leyland Model G7 convertible saloon bus which has just won an interim award in this year's Scania Transport Trust Awards.
Lovingly restored by Dunstable man Mike Sutcliffe, the "Charabus", as it was affectionately known, first appeared at the Olympia Commercial Motor Show in 1921.1 remember the occasion well—admiring the spanking new vehicle while munching a cheese and pickle butty and supping a pint of ale from one of Olympia's myriad bars. As I recall, the vehicle converts to an open top with the roof folded up and the windows stowed in a box at the rear.
