• To fill membership gaps in every sector of transport--only 8 per cent of the Institute's membership is employed in road haulage—the Institute of Transport plans a big recruitment drive in its golden jubilee year which began October 1. Membership standards will not be diluted but applications for corporate membership will be considered from (a) persons over 35 who have held senior positions of responsibility for five consecutive years or (bi who are engaged in positions of responsibility in transport and hold relevant professional or
academic qualifications. In both categories membership must be regarded by the council as beneficial to the Institute.
Michelin goes decimal • Tyre price lists published by Michelin (UK) now show both decimal and sterling prices, prior to changing over completely to decimals early in 1971. The first move toward making conversion easier took place earlier this year, when recommended resale prices were rounded down to the nearest shilling.
