As you are aware many accidents occur due to limited space in loading bays, and bad visibility during hours of darkness.
We have found that by fitting spot lamps on the rear axle, which flash intermittently, and also by coupling the flasher to a horn, both a light and sound signal is given by our vehicles when reversing
This has proved most effective, and although the driver must switch this on before he starts to reverse, and off afterwards, the arrangement works well.
In an ideal world, manufacturers would build this in and ensure that the lights and horn worked automatically when reverse gear was engaged.
