• When Coopers Road Services Ltd, of Wednesbury, wanted a new driver 83 men applied for the job—and this despite the Fact that the job had not been advertised. Mr Reg Cooper. managing director of the West Midland company "blacked" by the TGWU dispute, and vice-chairman of the West Midland area of the RHA, said that the high number of applications for a job which had been made known only by information passed on from existing employees, demonstrated the recession in the industry.
