/I The Commercial Motor Livery Awards are the most important awards for commercial vehicle livery in Britain. They are supported by Fasson UK — the manufacturer of self-adhesive materials for livery purposes — and the Freight Transport Association.
The aims of the competition are to promote the use of good design in vehicle livery, to promote the use of vehicle liveries as a means of advertising a product or service, and to promote awareness of the importance of a good, wellmaintained livery in presenting a good image of the road transport industry to the general public.
In establishing first a short list and then prizewinners in each category, the judges looked at a variety of points. These included:
0 The overall attractiveness of the livery — including the colour choices, and the quality of the work.
The success of the livery in getting across the operator's or customer's mess_ase.
LJ The consistency with which the message is carried around the vehicle.
L The suitability of the livery to both the vehicle and to the business in which that vehicle operates.
This year the judges had by far the most difficult task in the history of the competition. There were over 200 entries for the four main classes, and the judges also had to keep in mind the allocation of two special awards — the Fasson UK trophy for the best use of self-adhesive materials, and the FTA award for the best livery entered by an operator with less than 15 vehicles — as they worked through more than 600 views of the competing vehicles, looking at each view at least twice.
