Tread your article "Red 1 diesel scam in east London" (CM 20-26 August). I have three 38-tonners that draw diesel from the company you refer to as "Mickey's Diesel", for which I pay 53p a litre and receive a VAT receipt. I also buy diesel from Securicor on its fuel cards, at a fraction over 54p a litre (exVAT), so "Mickey's", at 53p a litre, can hardly be regarded as cheap. If it is questionable as to where "Mickey" obtains his white diesel from. Might not the same be asked of other suppliers, such as Securicor, which are able to keep their prices low for the haulage industry?
1 have been a haulage contractor for many years and have always tried to operate within the law, but I have seen my business dwindle, like so many others, so is it surprising if some transport companies choose to step over the line?
