Douglas has just been banned for one year firr driving at a speed of one mph. Douglas passed his test in 1940 and was a lorry driver in the Home Guard Recently he was spotted by police hurtling along in his Transit van at a reckless speed of 10-15mph. David Webster, prosecuting, told Barnsley magistrates: "Other drivers were shaking their heads in disbelief" The octogenarian thrill-seeker was convicted of careless driving with defective eyesight and will have to pass a new test. Optimist Douglas explains: "lye never had an accident. I'm waiting for some glasses. When I get those I should be all right."
