A professional driver for 19 years, Isted was diagnosed with diabetes seven years ago. He lost his C+E licence for three months before switching to treatment with tablets; his full entitlement was then returned. A year ago, it was withdrawn when insulin treatment was resumed.
isted wrote to the DVLA, his MP and even the Prime Minister in an attempt to get it back—without success. He is now considering an appeal to the Court of Human Rights.
"I understand that Jim Nelson's licence was issued by the TAO and that's why the DVLA can't touch him," he says. -So was mine and that's why I'm thinking about the human rights course. I've never in my life had a hypo attack and I can't see why cases can't be considered individually" He has successfully re-applied for a Cl licence.
