MORE THAN 4,000 DHL Express workers, including drivers, are to be balloted on strike action over pay after rejecting a 3% pay offer.
Over 89% of GMB members said they wanted to vote on industrial action in a consultative ballot held last week (CM 4 August).
Mick Rix, GMB national executive officer, says: "This consultative ballot result shows overwhelmingly that GMB members at DHL Express are up for a fight over the low pay and rotten working conditions that they have put up with up until now.
"I urge DHL management to get back to the negotiating table."
DHL says that it is concerned by a number of comments made by the GMB which it terms as "factually inaccurate and misleading".
A spokesman adds: "There has been no official ballot for industrial action. Any comments relating to this action are speculative and have no basis in fact.
"Clear guidelines exist in relation to legal industrial action and these rules and procedures have not been followed.
"In addition, comments made by the GMB relate only to the domestic next-day parcel division of DHL and not the wider DHL organisation," he says.
