• Dodd's Group has snapped up the distribution division of Sittingbourne, Kent-based George Hammond as part of its plan to expand its international operation.
All the staff at Hammond, which runs more than 30 vehicles, will transfer to Dodd's subsidiary 21st Century Logistics on 1 January.
Dodd's is moving the Hammond operation to a new 10-acre site on the Eurolink Commercial Park in Sittingbourne; some drivers have already been taken on there.
Ownership of Hammond gives Dodd's access to new customers including a French transport company and Silver Spring, a Folkestone-based spring water producer. "It's a good fit as we are both involved in primary distribution," says David Pink, managing director of 21st Century Logistics.
George Hammond says it wanted to sell its distribution operation to concentrate on its core activities of petrol retailing and shipping.
