WINCANTON DRIVERS on contract to pet food firm Nestle Purina could be forgiven for feeling disoriented as they prepare to switch employers for the second time in under a year.
The 80-plus drivers were previously working for Eddie Stobart before Wincanton pinched the contract from under their noses last March. But now Stobart looks set to have the last laugh as the contract will revert back to it on 10 January.
Wincanton confirms that it has lost the Hams Hall-based contract, but declines to comment further, It will continue to run the warehousing operation for Nestle Purina.
It's a second switch under the TUPE regs for the drivers, who say they are looking forward to working with Stobart again, particularly since there has been a change of management since their last stint at the firm. One, who asked to remain anonymous, says: "I imagine we'll come into work in a blue uniform and leave wearing a green one. We've heard there are new units coming as well, which will be welcome. It's the norm in the industry nowadays; people assume they can do things better but the reality is always different:• If, as expected, Stobart reintroduces a tramping system for its drivers then a change of vehicles is almost certain as the Daf CFs currently used on the contract are largely unsuited to nights out.
