• Merseyside PTE may co-ordinate a scheme whereby groups of workers can dial-a-taxi for the journey to and from work. The service would be operated by privately owned taxis. This is one of a number of schemes considered by a special Merseyside transportation working party.
With the Merseyside Area Land Transport Study as a background, representatives of local authorities, government departments and nationalized industry, met to review the major aspects of transport planning, with particular reference to public transport, and to formulate possible courses of action over the next five years.
The working party suggested that the taxi service might operate eventually but, to start with, a register of interested people, their homes and work addresses and hours of work, could be compiled by the PTE. Taxis could then be allocated.
