Prices between Euro-3 and Euro-4 trucks are widening as operators who work in London prepare to meet the 2012 emissions regulations for the capital.
Words: Steve Banner THE PRICE between Euro-3 and Euro-4 trucks is widening by up to 20%, dealers reveal, as London-bound operators trade in vehicles to meet emissions regulations for the capital.
All trucks entering the London Low Emission Zone from 3 January 2012 will have to meet the Euro-4 particulate standard or attract penalty charges.
-We're still getting people saying they'll worry about it when the time conies, but the deadline is less than two years away," says Lee Smith of independent dealership Hanbury Riverside.
"Operators are conscious they need to make the change;' says Keltruck's Phil Holmes.
Furthermore, UK operators eager to buy Euro-4 vehicles are finding they are competing against exporters, says Anthony Wright of European Vehicle Sales. "For example, Russian buyers want Euro-4compliant trucks," he says.
This does not mean Euro-4 chassis are unavailable. Newcastle upon Tyne Mercedes-Benz dealer Bell Truck Sales was recently offering unregistered Actros and Axor sixand eight-wheel Euro-4 rigids at massive savings compared with their Euro-.5 equivalents. •
