"THE fact that trailers are not allowed 011 the Albert Docks at Hull was quoted in support of an A-licence application before the Yorkshire Licensing Authority, at Leeds, on Monday.
The applicant, .Mr. Amos Peel, of Rochdale Road, Greetlartd, near Halifax, said that owing to this restriction and the inadequate size of a vehicle which he desired to displace by a larger one, it had been necessary for him to leave a trailer outside the docks and then tranship goods to it. He sought permission to substitute for the Vehicle in question one showing an increase of 141 cwt. in unladen weight and an addition of 2 tons in capacity.
Mr. F. G. I3ibbings, A.R.O. Yorkshire Area secretary, for Mr. Peel, put in certified figures showing that, during the year ended March 31 last, Mr. Peel's traffic receipts increased by over.
1,000, or more than 20 per cent., as
compared with those for the previous year. Evidence in support' Wat. given by customers.
When the Licensing Authority announced that the application would be refused, Mr. Bibbings asked leave to amend it by deleting a trailer, from Mr. Peel's licence, in addition to the vehicle displaced by the new one. This Would cause a loss of more than l tons in, unladen weight and 5 tons in carrying capacity. The Authority said he was unable to deal with an amended application.
Mr. Bibbings explained that Mr. Peel had only 24 hours in which to say. whether he would take delivery of tho new vehicle which was the subject of the application. He had been informed by the maker that any new order would involve a delay of 36 weeks before delivery could be effected.
