by Imperial Coachbuilders Ltd, part of the Crane Fruehauf group. The bodies are based on a design produced by Fruehauf of America and I the hydraulic system and tailgate lock has been changed to suit British operating conditions.
Twenty-four standard models are available with body lengths ranging from 3.7 to 4.9m (12 to 16ft) and three alternative side heights of 84, 104 and 135cm (33, 41 and 53in). The model spread gives capacities ranging from 6.6 to 13.5cum (8.3 to 17.7cuyd) or, when optional 31cm (12in) side boards are fitted, a maximum capacity of 17.4cum (22.7cuyd).
The basic body construction is carried out in alloy steel to BS 4360-5B which Imperial claims has a greater resistance to wear than mild steel and is less affected by atmospheric corrosion. The tailgate is completely boxframed to prevent bowing and both the top and bottom horizontal members a r e sloped to shed dirt.
