MESSERVY
Sir Godfrey Messervy is the new president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Chairman and chief executive of Lucas Industries since April 1980, Sir Godfrey takes over from Sam Toy — the former chairman and managing director of Ford Motor Company — who becomes deputy president.
Also elected at the society's AGM were senior vicepresident, Geoffrey Whalen (managing director, Peugeot Talbot); vice-presidents, Sir John Egan (chairrnan and chief executive, Jaguar Cars); David Owen (chairman, Rubery Owen Holdings) and George Pears (chairman, Automotive Products).
Miles Breeden (chairman, Wilmot Breeden) was reelected as the society's treasurer.
