• Shell's attempt to stabilise the price of bulk diesel by not rescheduling prices at the start of every month appears to be working, says London-based Oil Price Analysis (OPAL).
Since the start of last month Shell has refused to schedule a bulk diesel price increase and John Wild of OPAL says this move is receiving some support from the other fuel companies.
Prices seem to be holding constant at around 26.2 pence per litre, says Wild, "and there is no fat on that price for the oil companies."
Retail diesel prices are holding steady at around 35p per litre, says Wild, because the oil companies have learnt not to cut prices in a desperate bid for market share. "They have found it is better to hold on to Y2p per litre and let someone else win a slightly higher share," he says.
