service in the UK is now running with Scottish-operator Lovie of New Pitsligo. The 300.25 eightlegger is powered by the 188kW air-cooled Deutz F8L513 naturally-aspirated engine which develops 890Nm of torque.
In order to get the lowest possible chassis weight, the mixer drive of Lovie's new Maggie is taken from a power take-off built into the rear of the engine block and driven from the timing gear chain, using the same technique employed on the current Deutz-engined 2420 Cargo 6x4 mixer chassis.
The position of the engine PT-0 gives a simple direct drive to the mixer, replacing the need for a heavy sandwichtype PT-0. It also does away with the long hydraulic hoses normally required by a front
mounted pump.
Lovie has specified a Scottish-built mixer drum from McPhee Brothers (Blantyre) on its 8x4. Even with the heavy duty specification and extra water demanded by Lovie the total weight of the unit is only 12.4 tonnes, giving a payload of 18.1 tonnes. With standard specification drum, chutes and water tank carrying capacity is raised to 18.5 tonnes.
The 300.25 8x4 mixer joins Lovie's fleet of ten Ivecos: it was supplied by Harper Motor Company of Aberdeen.
