• Billingshurst-based Kingston Plant Hire is boosting its fleet of 28 Iveco Ford Cargo road-sweepers with the purchase of three Cargo 1311s and the placing of an order for five more.

Kingston specialises in renting vehicles to local authorities, and has been using Fords ever since it began 40 years ago.

Director Duncan Smales says, "I believe it is best to consolidate on one type of vehicle and for us that is the Cargo."

The latest 1311s to join the Kingston fleet, together worth around 2142,000 are fitted with Ford 6-litre diesel engines, producing 85kW at 2,600 rev/ min. The vehicles were bodied • Three new 38-tonne Iveco Ford 220.30 tractor units, together worth 128,400, are joining the fleet of Haicon Transport, based at Canvey Island in Essex.

The 6x 2 vehicles will be used primarily on container work operating from Felixstowe, and join a company which has included Iveco/Magirus vehicles in its fleet since the mid-1970s.

Each of the new vehicles is powered by an Iveco 8210.22 six cylinder diesel engine, producing 223Kw at 2,000rev/min and 1324Nm torque at 1,200rev/min.
