Daihatsu LPG move • Daihatsu has launched a liquid petroleum gas (LPG)-fuelled variant of its Hijet microvan.

The monofuel LPG van costs £9,080, which is £1,150 more than the petrol variant and £856 more than the diesel. However, with LPG currently costing 36p/lit, operators could save up to 30p on every litre of fuel.
Fuel consumption is also said to be better than conventionally fuelled versions, and the LPG Hijet is claimed to run smoother and quieter with reduced servicing costs. Daihatsu predicts a payback period of 17 months for a van covering 35,000km a year.
The Hijet's payload is reduced by 25kg compared with the petrol variant.
Externally, the LPG Hijet can be identified only by a slightly different fuel filler cap. In the cab an LED fuel gauge shows the contents of the 361it gas tank, which is said to give a range of about 400km.
The Hijet warranty runs for three years or 96,000km.
There are now more than 100 LPG retail outlets around the UK and the network is expanding fast.
