BMC wins council work
BMC PLC, THE UK importer for the Turkishbuilt trucks and buses, has scored a major sales coup with East Riding Council after it ordered 18 full-width, low-entry cabbed sixwheeler refuse trucks. The deal is worth almost E1 m for the chassis alone.
The rigids will be fitted with Farid compactor bodies and powered by a Cummins ISB engine with auto gearboxes. With Dennis Eagle now offering its six-wheeler with a Volvo engine, Coventrybased BMC is the only 6x4 low-entry refuse chassis manufacturer to continue to offer a Cummins engine in the UK.
BMC business development manager Paul Bicknell says: "In these times of economic uncertainty, we feel BMC has a fantastic foundation to offer an affordable product to the market. This has been proved recently with the order for 18 low-entry cabs via one of our dealers, Knottingley Trucks, supplied to East Riding Council!'
The first three have been delivered and all 18 vehicles will be in operation by the end of July The BMC cab offers seating for a driver and three crew members seated side-by-side.
