The Freight Transport Association reports that parking fines issued to operators in the capital have soared by 78% over the past year, costing the industry over £50m.
Its survey into parking in London also reveals that operators have been hit with an average 86% increase in fines and a 104% hike in admin costs.
Operators say the worst areas for fines are Westminster, Camden. the City, and Kensington & Chelsea. The inflexibility of parking attendants and London parking problems. An FA spokeswoman says: "It seems London boroughs are keen to make up their money from fines as parking revenue dropped after the introduction of congestion charging."
