of six new forwardcontrol bus models, designed for city and long-distance services, has been announced by the Federal Motor Truck Co., Detroit. Chassis fitted with oil or petrol engines are offered. Capacities range from -29 to 45 passengers.
The company developed the new forward-control series as a result of a world-wide survey of bus needs. The vehicles have been designed to Meet various local reqnirements.
' The new chassis are available in a number of wheelbase lengths ranging from 10 ft. to 20 ft. Whee.lbases are approximately 4 ft. shorter than those of present comparable Federal chassis. The one-piece frame is of what is available; they deliver from 95 b.h.p. to 155 b.h.p. Two types. the DF-105 and F-105, have been developed particularly for high-al(itude operation. These units are available with a 142 b.h.p. oil or 155 b.h.p. overhead-valve petrol engine.
Hydraulic or air brakes are available. Transmission systems have been provided. with a choice of either four or five forward speeds. All chassis are equipped with Timken oversize front axles having a wide track of approximately 6 ft. 8 ins.: rear axles are of the Timken hypoid single-speed design.
