• Two novel truck-mounted systems for collecting recyclable materials have been devised by Acco (Motor Bodies) of Bilston, West Midlands and Sheffield-based Will Engineer.
A Leyland Daf FA50-160 12.5-tonner with four-compartment Acco Wheelie system replaces one of Nithsdale District Council's boxvan with tail-lift. Side and tail-lifts are able to handle 120-1,100-litre bins while the tippir discharge body will carry up to 5.0 tonnes of waste.
Acco is also developing a small side-loading compaction unit for 7.5-tonne rigids. Sheffield-based Will Engineer's unusual dual skip emptier for recycling work is aimed at councils or contractors wanting a multi-purpose collector that can also be used as a back-up vehicle.
The Skip-Tip 10KT Multi-truck it uses a double-arm arrangement capable of handling a variety of containers from small skips to 20m3 (26yd3) 10tonne Euroskip containers.
A Eurolift bin lifter installed behind the cab means that the vehicle can handle and self-load a twochamber Euroskip which makes it useful for collecting types of recyclable waste on "milk rounds".
The 10KT's unique double arms enable the unit to lift a small skip of 2.0m3 capacity.
