• A licence bid by Vale of Glamorgan based England Environmental (CM 9-15 September, 14-20 October) has succeeded despite strong opposition from two local authorities during a three-day public inquiry
The company was seeking a new national licence based at Pwll-y-Darren, Welsh Street, Donats, Cowbridge, for nine vehicles and five trailers to replace a licence currently held by Nigel and Martin England for four vehicles and two trailers. The company operates a waste disposal service for farms and the application was opposed by South Glamorgan County Council and Vale of Glamorgan District Council.
South Wales Deputy Traffic Commissioner Gerrard Sullivan has granted a licence authorising six vehicles and three trailers, subject to a number of environmental conditions.
Sullivan said that he considered that the although the proposed operating centre was in a rural area, it was not unsuitable. However, he felt that there would be an adverse environmental effect on the residents of a nearby cottage. Consequently, he imposed conditions banning access via Watery Lane, and prohibiting vehicle movement before 06:00 and after 19:30hrs Monday and Saturday, and totally on Sundays.
