• Drivers at Prestons of Potto held an unofficial strike on Sunday (7 November) in a bid to force the North Yorkshire-based haulier into giving them a pay increase.
More than 60 drivers decided on the action at a meeting in a local pub on Sunday morning. CM has been told that the pickets were offered a temporary pay increase of £4.20 a week to get them back to work, GM understands that the deal will give drivers earnings of £145.80 for a 40-hour week, until the company has agreed a deal with the union. It is believed that the 117 drivers have previously been offered performance-related bonuses for cutting down on fuel and road accidents (CM 30 September-6 October).
Prestons of Potto director Anne Preston denies that there was any industrial action at Potto and would not comment on reports of the drivers winning a temporary 3% pay rise.
