• Nooteboom has built a modular trailer system which incorporates a flexible gooseneck designed for use with three-, fouror even five-axle tractive units. The trailer combination was built for Danish heavy haulage firm Vantdrup Special Transport A/S, and is intended for moving heavy machinery such as excavators and stone crushers.
The multi-purpose hydraulically detachable gooseneck, designed by Nooteboom's German associate Scheuerle, uses four compensation cylinders instead of the usual two. Its coupling weight can be varied from 12 to 40 tonnes, and it offers seven different coupling
positions; this allows it to be used with virtually any heavy haulage tractor, with or without a jib crane. A coupling weight monitoring system is built in, with a display in the tractor cab.
The two tandem-axle "Flatcombi" trailer axle assemblies have hydraulic suspension with 250mm of height adjustment. They are used with an extendible, narrow load floor: this can be changed from 1.35m to 3.25m wide, and extended up to 13m long. Alternatively, Vamdrup can equip a stone crusher with special couplings at each end, allowing it to be connected directly to the gooseneck and axle assemblies; this saves around 12 tonnes in total weight.
